Her Flyaway Manner

Lincoln, NE · 1996–present

A band that set out to prove that format is not formulaic, and that there is more to a heartfelt song than whining declarations of unrequited love. They created songs that were challenging yet not overtly arty, passionate and intense but not self-centered. Unique guitar playing weaves through a rhythm section providing an almost jazzy base, with huge bursts of energy and strange tempos worked with precision.

The band started as a trio in 1996 in Lincoln, Nebraska, taking influences from the fertile independent music scene in the Midwest - bands like Giants Chair, Vitreous Humor, Boys Life, and Traluma. They honed their style for several years before releasing their self-titled debut full-length on Caulfield in 2000. The following year brought the “A Rotation…” CDEP, a second guitar player, and a split 7” with Chicago’s Haymarket Riot.

The band completed three tours of the Eastern U.S. and played countless shows throughout the Midwest, including an opening slot for Fugazi. Her Flyaway Manner was featured as the lead track on the NE vs. NC compilation (Redemption Records), alongside Cursive, Desaparecidos, and Sorry About Dresden.

After a long hiatus, the band returned with An Ethology Of Me in 2024.
